An Act to increase the penalties for certain offences under the Protection of Animals (Scotland) Act 1912.

Be it enacted by the Queen’s most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
1Increased penalty for certain acts of cruelty to animals
In section 1(1) of the [1912 c. 14.] Protection of Animals (Scotland) Act 1912 (actings which as respects animals constitute offence of cruelty), for the words from “a fine” to the end there shall be substituted the words “imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or to a fine not exceeding level 5 on the standard scale or to both”.
2Citation, extent and commencement

This Act may be cited as the Protection of Animals (Scotland) Act 1993; and it extends to Scotland only.

This Act shall come into force at the end of the period of two months beginning with the day on which it is passed; and it has no effect in relation to any offence committed before it comes into force.
